DREW – RESCUED APRIL 10, 2008

April 15, 2008 – Drew was found to be lightly heartworm positive and will be undergoing treatment for his heartworm disease while in foster care.   He will be ready for in early June.

April 10, 2008 - Drew is an approximately 2 year old male Welsh Springer Spaniel found in a shelter in very rural southeastern Indiana.  He was listed as a Brittany by the shelter staff, however, he was recognized as a Welsh Springer Spaniel by his shelter photo.   He was taken in to foster care on April 10th and is doing well so far.  There are three other Welshies, all females, in his foster home and Drew is trying to figure out his place in the pack’s pecking order at this point.  He is also being taught not to bolt out of the door and to wait for a leash to be put on before he is allowed outside.

Drew is reported to be very energetic and will need both an outlet for his energy level and some consistent manners and obedience training in his new home.  It appears that he has not had the benefit of either in his young life so far.  He does calm down and is good in the house and even ignores the resident cat.

Once Drew has settled in and gotten adjusted to his surroundings, we will be able to complete a full assessment of him.   He is already neutered and vaccinated and will be getting a vet check and beauty treatment in the coming days.   He will also be microchipped at his upcoming vet check.

If you are interested in this young male Welshie, please contact Shannon Gandee by e-mail heatherstone@wirefire.com.   There is an adoption questionnaire on the WSSCA website as well and this can be completed and sent to Shannon as part of the process.

SAMMIE – READY FOR ADOPTION

Sammie is an approximately ten year old spayed Welsh Springer Spaniel female who came to WSSCA’s Rescue program through the efforts of American Brittany Rescue. Sanmie was mistakenly identified as a Brittany and, after a period of time in their foster care, it was suspected that she might not be a purebred Brittany and WSSCA was contacted to see if she might be a Welshie. It turned out that she is possibly a Welshie and Sammie was immediately brought in to our foster care program.

Through the records of American Brittany Rescue it was learned that Sammie has been owner-relinquished two times in the past five years for reported separation anxiety. Therefore, the best home for her would be one in which someone is home most of the time and a canine companion would also be a great help for Penny as she is very comfortable in the company of other dogs. Her foster mom reports that Penny settles in to the household routine quickly and is not pushy at all. If you think that you are a good match for Sammie, please contact WSSCA’s Rescue Coordinator by e-mail at
heatherstone@wirefire.com.

FINNEGAN – ADOPTION PENDING

Finnegan is a five year old neutered male Welsh Springer Spaniel in Canada who was referred to the WSSCA’s Rescue program when he needed a third home. His breeder no longer lives in Canada and was unable to take him to her home. WSSCA’s Rescue program is bringing Finnegan in to a foster home in the Pacific Northwest section of the United States and, from there, he will meet his new adoptive family just a short time later. Everyone is excited and is now busy preparing for the newest addition, Finnegan.
