“PEACH BLOW” “PEACH CREST” “BLACK ROSE”
By: FERILL J. RICE
I have received several inquires the last couple of months regarding “PEACH BLOW”.
On page 85 of William Heacock’s first book is a copy of an original advertisement listing “PEACH BLOW NOVELTY ASST.” This ad is in pink & yellow. Remember color ads at that time were black & white photos with color added by painting. We can only assume that the pink & yellow decoration that shows in the ad was meant for effect. Those of you who have collected Custard Glass have known this type of glass with a brown type paint fired on. Today we know this as “Nut-Meg”. And note that Mr. Heacock say this was originally called “PEACH BLOW”.
Then on page 48 of the second book shows PEACH BLOW & PEACH CREST as it was made in the 1940”s & 50’s & early in the 1960’s. This was a cased glass with pink on the inside & white opaque glass on the outside. If it had the crystal crest it became PEACH CREST & if not, it was PEACH BLOW. Also, of course, if it was PEACH BLOW with a black crest it was BLACK ROSE.…………..
